Canvas
Using advanced digital printing technology we can reproduce your photographs or artwork on canvas or paper. Our canvases, papers and inks are of the highest quality and your artwork will be manufactured with care and attention. We pride ourselves on our craftsmanship and detail, and you can be sure of receiving a finished piece of artwork you can be proud of.
Canvas printing
Your image will be printed on high quality Chromata Bright White 410gsm waterproof canvas using Epson Ultrachrome inks, tested to last at least 75 years. Two protective coatings are then applied to seal, protect and further enhance the image resulting in an attractive semi-gloss finish. The canvas is then stretched by hand over timber stretcher bars 24mm or 44mm deep. Every care is taken to ensure the finished article is completed to our very high standards.
Longevity
Our canvas manufacturer is committed to performing extensive independent testing by third-party accredited laboratories in order to ensure their fine art products meet and exceed the standards set forth by Fine Art Trade Guild (FATG) for pH and lightfastness.
FATG has established a specific set of standards so that consumers can be confident that the art and framing supplies they use are archival. These standards are governed under Blue Wool Testing and the Blue Wool Scale.
The Blue Wool Scale measures and calibrates the permanence of prints. Zero denotes extremely poor colour fastness while an eight rating is deemed not to have altered from the original and thus credited as being lightfast and permanent. Blue Wool 6 is the accepted standard for limited edition prints.
Our canvas is rated Blue Wool 6 which is equivalent to 100 years display life.
Note: Actual print stability will vary according to media, printed image, display conditions, light intensity and atmospheric conditions.

Canvas Stretching
Our canvas is stretched by hand over timber stretcher bars which are available in two depths, 24mm premium bars and 44mm deep gallery bars. Our most popular depth of bar is 24mm, the deeper 44mm bars are more suited to larger pictures.
The stretcher bars we use are specially made from winter-cut, finger jointed and laminated Baltic pine. This gives the advantage of removing all knots and making the timber very strong and very straight.
Stretcher bars are cut and slotted to fit together in the traditional way. When the canvas is stretched, wedges are loosely inserted for use later if the canvas requires re-tensioning.
Canvas Wrap
A wrap is where the image is continued round the edge onto the sides of the finished canvas. If there is sufficient ‘space’ outside of the focal point of the image we can enlarge the image allowing the image to continue round the sides.
If the image is not large enough or unsuitable for wrapping we can mirror the edges and add them to the original, therefore extending the image.
If the subject or picture is too close to the edge and section to be mirrored (as in the example below) we recommend leaving the edge white to avoid unwanted detail such as limbs being duplicated along the side of the canvas. In some cases we can mirror and clone the edge to enable us to extend the picture without duplicating any unnecessary details.

Paper (Giclee) Printing
Fine art Giclee printing
We keep a selection of paper in stock ranging from a 315gsm High White Smooth to a Hahnumuhle 310gsm cotton rag mould made watercolour paper and can reproduce your artwork as high quality fine art Giclee prints.
Photograph printing
Photographs are printed on 270gsm gloss or lustre semi gloss UV protected photographic paper. Poster paper is available for larger sizes as an economical alternative.
Longevity
All our fine art papers are 100% cotton rag, acid free and pH neutral and are extremely resistant to ageing in compliance with DIN 6738 and offer the highest life expectancy of several hundred years. The permanence of the print, i.e. the colour adherence is ink dependent and with our UV resistant inks (pigmented inks) can last for more than 100 years.
Note: Actual print stability will vary according to media, printed image, display conditions, light intensity and atmospheric conditions.
As Fine Art Guild Commended framers we also offer a mounting and framing service. Please see our framing section for more details.
Image requirements
Images for printing should preferably be in JPEG format and at least 300dpi, although we can also accept: TIFF, PSD, PNG and EPS. Images from 5 megapixel or higher cameras are ideal. Images from mobile phones are usually low resolution and are therefore unsuitable.
If the image is low resolution or unsuitable we will contact you before printing.
All minor blemishes and corrections are carried out free of charge.
Digital proofs via email are also provided free of charge.
Printing from artwork supplied
We are able to scan photographs, negatives, slides and artwork to a high resolution, returning the original with the finished canvas or print.
Artwork, when scanned or photographed can be subject to a ‘set-up and proofing’ fee depending on level of reproduction required. This enables us to print several proofs and adjust colours and tone etc to accurately reproduce your artwork on paper or canvas. All subsequent prints will be printed from the proven master file and therefore will not incur the set-up charge.
If absolute colour accuracy is not important then the set-up and proofing fee will not be applicable although a small proof is usually produced for approval before the final print.
Styles
A style can be applied to your image by our designers to create an original piece of artwork exclusive to you.
